After a long intermission, I just read the second Mysterious Benedict book: The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey.
Like the first, this book features four young adventurers who, as the title suggests, must make a dangerous trip, solving riddles and puzzles on the way to rescue a friend. I was expecting the same loveable characters, and I was not disappointed at how real and life-like they continued to be.
I was, though, impressed with how author Trenton Lee Stewart made his characters change as a result of their experiences in the first book. Some of them had newly-found skills and savvy, but others had increased doubts and difficulties.
It's not easy saving the world and remaining humble! It's also not easy to fight "bad guys" without becoming somewhat pessimistic about the world at large! I highly recommend this book, but make sure to start with the first in the series, The Mysterious Benedict Society.
Guys and gals in 4th - 6th grade will enjoy this series!
